Glastonbury Festival Of Contemporary Performing Arts - Areas - The Alleys - Nanos

Also known as the Badlands, stumble into this maze of covered alleys riddled with tiny Nano‐venues, each one luring you in to a unique den of weird and wonderful delights. Once again Nik Diesel has sound designed the alleys – bringing the interactive environment to life with a film like score.

LOVEBULLETS HQ
LBHQ is a Rio style party favela shack on two floors, a groundbreaking structure developed by the HALO group. Each night is being taken over by a different collective injecting a new vibe into the venue for all you festival party people! Thursday is programmed by Jade Jagger’s legendary Jezebel, Friday sees Californian denim pioneers KR3W take over. Saturday day time is with You Are We. Its distinct sound has quickly secured a loyal following of knowledgeable music fans and is currently hosting some of East London’s best warehouse parties. Kubicle take over from midnight. Kubicle is at the forefront of electronic music with residents for the night including Clive Henry, Richy Ahmed, Rob James plus some very special guests. Sunday is grand finale with current DJ heroes Soul Clap and Wolf Lamb going head to head for a 6 hour take over.

DEAD AND BREAKFAST
Nestled in the alleyways of Shangri La this is the perfect stop off for the weary traveller. Come and stay in our luxurious room available for long term lets of up to about 20 minutes. Relax and unwind. No Bookings. No infestations. No guarantees. All guests will be filmed for prosperity.

REGISTRATION ROOMS
As Shangri-la citizens prepare to leave their city, the registration room offers residents the chance to record a piece of themselves, perhaps a message in search of loved ones lost in the rebellion, or memories from their time in Shangri-la.

THE SYNTHETIC GARDENS
A robotanical museum and interactive research facility. What options do the plants have when the soil has turned to rust? In the growing waste and debris of an unkempt Shangri-La, nature finds a new existence. Partly monitored, partly feral, the mutating plant life takes advantage of the rotting remains, waiting for their moment to reclaim the soon-to-be-abandoned city.

SHEPARD GENERATORS
Device generating a tone of infinite rising scale. An audio illusion. Also known as a 'Barber pole tone'.  Appearing to be forever ascending upwards as it turns, yet simultaneously never moving from its fixed position. Shepard Generators is an opiate-style audio-visual bunker for those who want to stay in ever increasing illusions.

DIE MORTAL PAWNSHOP
The Die Mortal Pawnshop is the Badland's trading post – a wretched hive of scum and villainy, populated by upgrade addicts, trench coats, human pimps, cyborg girls. 8-bit sound glitches and footage leaks from stacks of monitors. Festival-goers can peruse the mountains of stock, but to make a purchase they must exchange something of their own…

PINBALL GEOFF
Within the over crowded alleys of Shangri La is a small tent filled with the mechanical remnants of a bygone age when amusements and gambling were simple pleasures accessed by the insertion of one old penny coin. Overseen by the Servant of the Silver Sphere himself and his dubious cohorts, Pinball Geoff and his mechanical toys offer amusement and a release to the infected throng before being discarded to gently decay when the spaceship full of his presently decommissioned auto amusement droids blast off to conquer new worlds and find new fortunes. 

DRUM MACHINE
The fully interactive, futuristic drum circle combines the uniting powers of percussion, rhythm and dance with cutting edge music technology. This interactive audio, visual experiment provides a unique insight into the core building blocks of modern music technology and culture. Create, play and party inside the machine.

EVERY LITTLE HURTS
Through the tunnels of Shangri-La a familiar neon sign is buzzing, an apocalyptic supermarket selling fear, alcohol and plastic surgery. Step into the world of the depraved to be served by the haggard manager, bent over the bar top muttering profanities whilst her ‘glamorous’ assistant flirts, harasses and flashes her prosthetic limbs at guests tempting them to sample her wares.

BLAH NAILS
Shangri La’s very own personal transformation station. At Blah Nails, the madams of the makeover will pimp and preen you to perfection. With an arsenal of false nails, lashes, wigs and make up, these ladies guarantee to create a look for you that will be remembered.

DEATH ROW PEEP SHOW  
Unbeknown to those of the city, lurking at the very depths of the bottomless pit, for many years the dictatorship had been performing hideous crimes of torture, execution and sensory deprivation experiments on the original rebel forces.  This shit is serious, a call to arms is required… we call upon everyone to come and witness these terrible atrocities creeping through the cavernous underbelly of our wondrous land.  We welcome you to experience: The Death Row Peep Show.  An alarming and emotionally stimulating alchemical journey into that ever elusive space between right and wrong, good and bad, black and white; a world where nothing is quite as it seems.  In the depths of the darkness, from the belly of the beast, be prepared to be astounded by the Spirit of Love.  This is a place where the end of the world meets a bright new beginning.  Keep the Faith Mother Fucker!

SURGERY
The Surgery is a one-stop shop for getting your shots (medicinal of course). The Doctors, Surgeons and Nurses will cater for your needs and for those who wish to stay on in the debauched filth, rather than fly away to some new planet - there is a [re]contamination operation for subjects who don't want to leave Shangri La.

A.R.S.E.
The Aerosolik Recording Studio Extravaganza is for everyone, whether lowly or grand, talented or inept - everyone has a musical hit inside of them, waiting to burst out, and you can do it here! A record shop, radio station and recording studio, the Shangri La underground pop charts are fuelled by this shack of sound. Whether you're leaving on the first flight or want to become a celebrity amongst the filth - making history by cutting some virtual wax is a must.

FISH AND TITS
The legendary "funked-up and tease-tastic" late night cabaret and cocktail bar is back with a vengeance this year. Live acts, dangerous women, and dancing until sunrise in Shangri-La's most exclusive venue. Anything can (and probably will) happen in this steamy sub-aquatic forest full of exotic desires... now twice the size and with added waterfalls!
