Dig deep for Malawi with WaterAid

June 22, 2012

This summer, WaterAid (one of Glastonbury’s worthy causes) is asking the UK public to back an exciting new appeal, The Big Dig, to help communities in Malawi get the basic necessities of clean, safe water and sanitation.

The funds raised will support WaterAid’s work in rural Malawi, where 20% of the population has no clean water, and 44% of people have nowhere safe to go to the toilet. All money donated by the public will be matched pound for pound by the UK Government from the aid budget, helping reach twice as many people. Overall, WaterAid hopes to raise £1.2m to transform more than 134,000 lives.

There’s also a unique opportunity to follow the journey of two communities – Bokola and Kaniche – on The Big Dig Blog. To find out more or make a donation go to www.thebigdig.org.
