Oxfam open Japan appeal

March 18, 2011

Following the severe earthquake which struck the north-east coast of Japan on 11 March, causing a major tsunami and serious damage across northern Japan, a massive relief operation is now underway. That involves the government, the army and civil society. Oxfam UK’s sister organisation Oxfam Japan is raising money for several local organisations active in the disaster areas.

“The Japanese state has the means to reach 99% of the population but there will always be some who need more specific assistance,” said Oxfam Japan Executive Director, Akiko Mera, from Tokyo.
