Local historian Dr ANDY PICKERING, with music from THE SPLINTERS, will introduce the proceedings with reflections on the impact of transportation on the lives of those convicted and their families in nineteenth-century England.

MICHAEL WOOD AND STEVE KNIGHTLY: VOICES OF THE LAND. From the Peasants Revolt to the Tolpuddle Martyrs: A 30-minute collaboration between esteemed historian Michael Wood and West Country singer-songwriter Steve Knightley (SHOW OF HANDS), delving into the rich history of English agricultural protest. Michael’s historical context and Steve’s soulful songs will evoke the essence of these poignant tales.

TOLPUDDLE FIRE CIRCLE fire lighting ceremony with XIOCOME GLASTONBURY: The Xicome Peace delegation will share traditional and ancient dance, songs, pipe ceremony and gifts, so we unite in One Fire. One Heart.

Fire dancers, wandering musicians, chimpanzees and strange feathered beings now inhabit this arboreal adventure playground.Starring – amongst others – This Sax is on Fire, The Great Bendini and Talulah Blue, and the remarkably talented Des O’Conner to jolly up proceedings for this great opening event.
