Astonishing and arresting, remarkable and memorable… get ready for the spontaneous delights of the legendary Glastonbury Festival walkabout theatre performers. They are honing their acts, ready to entertain, inspire and beguile as they immerse visitors in interactive theatrical shenanigans.

“We’re bringing you top street theatre acts from the UK and around the world in numbers that only gather at Glastonbury,  says Theatre and Circus area organiser Haggis McLeod “It’s like walking into a parallel universe, enchanting or clever, funny or downright ridiculous”

“Interact with the acts, pose for a selfie, or simply watch it all go by. Keep an eye out for enticing characters out to involve you in some nonsense!”

Walkabouts roam the three T&C fields (Circus Field, Bella’s Field, Glebeland) from Wednesday midmorning until the wee small hours. Here are some of the many highlights.

The Lips, a chorus of delightfully deviant divas whose mouths have broken free from their bodies. Seductive, luminous and mesmerising pop puppet sing-along spectacle,

The Firefighters are hilarious heroes delivering slapstick comedy, daring stunts and mishaps that tend to spiral into pure chaos.

Dance with the EEA Disco Turtle, spot the Talking Lamp Posts at Bella’s bridge, take part in a sacred ritual with Fortuni and Fae, be serenaded by a string quartet Bowjangles and sing along with The Magnificent Kevens, those rockstars of yesteryear down on their luck and looking for one more shot at fame.

Have a cuppa with The Tea Ladies, but watch out for The Seagulls, they’ll be after your chips. Catch High Flyers with their illuminated steam punk airplane with elements of Madmax and Leonardo da Vinci.

The Bad Eggs are back with two bolshy babies strapped in a motorised pushchair who drive where they want and say what they want. It’s fair to say emotions run high.

Get the latest on world events with The Bigheads, this year old favourites are joined by newbie the Golf of America. And if you want to say “I’ve played Glastonbury”, catch the Ukelele Thrash Mob roaming T&C with a record 50 ukuleles this year. Any age, any musical ability, you’re welcome.

Walkabouts have been a feature at the festival since the Theatre and Circus fields began in the 80s, created by Glastonbury co-founder Arabella Churchill.  Some of the acts have been coming ever since; for others, this year will be their first Glastonbury experience.
