White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood return to this year’s Festival with their Mum’s Tattoo Parlour. Based in The Park, they’ll again be on hand to brand Festival-goers with their free tattoo transfers and raise awareness for the well-being of mothers and pregnant women and girls across the globe.
As well as tattoos – which in previous years were sported by the likes of Michael and Emily Eavis, Jarvis Cocker, Lilly Allen, Sienna Miller, Will Young and Billy Bragg – this year, White Ribbon Alliance are inviting folks to dress up for Polaroids and say, "Hello Mum", from the heights of the Festival.
All women deserve the right to give birth safely. Yet, childbirth remains the biggest killer of young women in many countries. Every day, 800 women and girls die bringing life into this world. And when the mother dies, seven out of ten of the babies that survive the birth will die in infancy. Most of these women give birth alone at home, without the expert care they need. Even when they can access health facilities, the quality of care is often so poor, they are subject to abuse and cruel treatment, and it frightens women from seeking the help they need.
White Ribbon Alliance bring together people to demand the right to a safe birth for every woman, everywhere. Pay them a visit up at The Park – or at www.whiteribbonalliance.org – and support mothers everywhere.
