Glastonbury Festival 2013

Shangri-La

Welcome to Shangri-La, the after-hours epicentre of the festival.

In 2013, we invite you to become inhabitants of this bizarre and brilliant film-set world, a fantastical wonderland designed and built by over 1,500 crew and artists.

Here you might catch one of the secret headline artists on stage or in a tiny venue; in trying to find them you will become lost in our twisting alleys only to discover one of the myriad of doors leading you to a place you never expected to encounter at Glastonbury…

Shangri-La has an immersive storyline that brings the whole show together each year, read on to discover the story so far and what we’ve got in store for you this year.

The Story so far…

A long time ago in a festival far, far away...

The city of Shangri-La was a dystopian vision of a bleak future,   a future where the corrupt Administration had overthrown the socialist utopia and built a Blade-runner style pleasure city dedicated to non-stop 24hr fun.

Over the next 4 years, the Shangri-La Administration was overthrown and the city taken over by the rebels; year-by-year the sparkling pleasure city fell ever more into ruin and disrepute.

As the End of the World became nigh, we saw the privileged citizens of Shangri-la indulging in the last and most epic rave ever before the apocalypse.

It soon became apparent that the Mayans were right: Shangri-La the Pleasure City was destroyed and all its citizens, low-down dives and whorehouses blown to smithereens.

Now, we welcome you to the unknown, to The AfterLife, where one mans Heaven is another mans Hell.
