The Green Fields

If the main stage is the pulse of this vast and vibrant festival, then the Green Fields are its spirit: 60 acres of quiet optimism, keeping alive the vision and principles that have inspired Glastonbury since the first gathering at Worthy Farm all those years ago.

This year the English astronaut Tim Peake continues his six month journey on the international space station.  Many astronauts have set out on similar missions to study the moon and explore space and have been changed forever by the sight of planet earth as they gazed back at her, suspended, beautiful and vulnerable.

“Oddly enough the overriding sensation I got looking at the earth was, my god that little thing is so fragile out there
Mike Collins, Apollo 11

“I think the one overwhelming emotion that we had was when we saw the earth rising in the distance over the lunar landscape …. It makes us realize that we all do exist on one small globe”
Frank Borman, Apollo 8

“This planet is not terra firma. It is a delicate flower and it must be cared for. It’s lonely. It’s small. It’s isolated, and there is no resupply. And we are mistreating it…. This is our home
Scott Carpenter, Apollo 1

This perception of the Earth as one organism is at the heart of the Green Fields.  In every part of these beautiful fields the search for a higher cause and the exploration of the bigger picture goes on.

We do not have to journey into space to come by the same enlightenment as an astronaut. We can discover it for ourselves, right here, right now through a myriad of extraordinary entertainment, light, laughter and healing as we join together to pay tribute to Planet Earth, our home.

2016 is also the International Year of Global Understanding.  The Green Fields is the perfect arena for highlighting this as we continue to promote and elevate awareness of how the local impacts the global. You will find many practical examples of how we as individuals can make a difference to the whole.

As well as a place of peace and inspiration the Green Fields is a platform for vital art, debate and celebration.  We have intimate stages that provide music for all, professional huggers, a naughty wolf, dragons, a stone circle, an eternal flame, solar powered movies, a secret underground venue and so so much more.

Last year we were honored and blessed when His Holiness the Dalai Lama visited us to help raise our spiritual awareness.  As you will discover you never know who or what you might find in the universal beauty of the Green Fields.

We would like to say a massive thank you to the people of the festival for respecting and supporting our no NOS policy last year. Please keep the space sacred again this year by continuing to keep it a NOS free zone.

Peace and Love
